Sag Harbor Yoga Classes - Yoga Classes in the Hamptons

View Yoga Class Schedule | Class Prices & Membership

IMPORTANT WEEKEND STUDIO CHANGES: All regularly scheduled yoga classes from Friday, February 3rd at 5:30pm, through Sunday, February 5th, will be held at the Breakwater Yacht Club, just up the road, at 51 Bay Street. Classes will resume at Yoga Shanti on Monday, February 6th.

Yoga Styles & Descriptions

Jivamukti Yoga

Jivamukti Yoga combines the practice of asana with the practices of bhakti (acting with affection), nada (inner and outer music), ahimsa (generating nonviolence), the study of yogic scriptures, and the practice of meditation. A typical class might involve chanting, a teaching on a spiritual focus relating to the asana practice and life off the mat, guided with good music and hands on adjustments. Some yoga experience recommended.

Ashtanga Yoga Class

Students are led through the full primary series of the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Special emphasis is placed on tristhana: posture, gaze and breath, which when practiced in the context of vinyasa, work to purify the body, mind and nervous system. Students should possess prior ashtanga experience with sufficient ease and strength up through Navasana. This class is not for beginners.

Lunch-Time Yoga (60 mins)

A well-rounded one hour lunch-time class for those of you that don't have time in your schedule to allow for a full 90 minute class. Class will begin with a warm-up of Surya Namaskar, move into Standing Poses, Backbends, Forward Bends or Twists to "cool-down", a 5 minute Savasana (relaxation), and a 5 minute Meditation to prepare you for the rest of your day. Reward yourself with this "Yoga Break" in your daily routine... you deserve it!

Rockin’ Vinyasa!

Lisa Zaloga's vinyasa style of teaching is a cohesive eclectic blend of Jivamukti, Ashtanga, Iyengar and Anusara! Her vinyasa class is "a seamless experience" not just a class, and includes a theme, rockin' music, concentration, and focus on breath being the leader through a flow of intelligent sequencing. In class Lisa encourages students to challenge their 'edges', to honor their bodies but to remember that being complacent or comfortable doesn't always teach us the more profound life lessons. Her classes include a psyco-spiritual element including yogic philosophy and 'real life' tools to guide students toward developing a stronger moral compass. Lisa’s classes are challenging for every level but with a gentle force.

Community Yoga Class

Our Community Yoga classes are taught by a rotation of Yoga Shanti teachers and are an opportunity for everyone in the community to practice yoga. Classes are suitable for all levels and you are invited to participate at your own pace. These classes are donations based. We suggest a $10 donation but smaller and larger sums are welcome and graciously accepted by our kind teachers who donate their time to teaching these community classes. Please come along and spread the word!

Pilates Mat Classes

Whether you strive for toning, proper alignment, weight loss, flexibility or peace of mind, Pilates accelerates the jaw-dropping results you are looking for. This unique method encourages coordination of breath with core, creating and effective total- body workout that firms and lifts your seat, strengthens and lengthens muscles, helps give you a sleek, toned body without excessive bulk. Pilates technique supports the health of the spine and mind as you engage the core!

Prenatal Yoga

Our prenatal classes focus on increasing energy, stamina, strength, and flexibility as well as improving focus and concentration in order to assist in labor, delivery and beyond. It is also a great way to meet other pregnant women in the area. Please sign up for our newsletter to be notified when our next prenatal series begins.

After the Beach Vinyasa

Ever feel a little more exhausted from a long day in the sun and sand? Brighten up before the night begins with a one hour yogic refresher. Class will include a balanced vinyasa sequence, with some mental floss to uplift the mind woven throughout the asanas. Chanting likely.

Gentle Restorative

Slip into the evening with a soothing blend of gentle and restorative yoga. Classes begin with breathwork & flowing sequences to release tension, and culminate in a series of restorative postures for deep opening and total relaxation. A blissful way to unwind for all levels of students.

Effortless Meditation

In meditation, no matter what the tradition, no matter what the form (and there are many), we “come home.” Or more accurately, we realize we already are home. In these meditations the student is given gentle suggestions to direct the mind’s focus inward. For it is there, in the body, that the mind can access stillness. In this way, meditation is really yoga, and yoga is really meditation, as both are directed toward stilling the fluctuations of the mind. Brief readings from various wisdom traditions are also provided.

Kids Yoga Classes in Sag Harbor!

Children will be encouraged to use their imaginations through creative and unique yoga style games. Yoga games will incorporate listening skills, co-operation, co-ordination and team building - essential skills for success in school & life. Children will be exposed to global music with playful & peaceful messages, counting in Sanskrit, Sanskrit vocabulary, and literature which will promote themes such as fairness, respect & acceptance.

Class Levels

OPEN LEVEL

All levels are welcome to attend this challenging "vinyasa" class, (flowing from one posture to the next, motivated by breath). Open classes often include chanting, meditation practice, and teachings from ancient yogic scriptures. It is recommended but not required that you attend Basic or Level 1-2 classes before attending Open classes.

BASIC LEVEL

Our Basic level classes are geared towards beginners and are also suitable for any student who would like to reacquaint themselves with the fundamentals of asana and brush up on the basics. This class will give you the tools necessary to build a lifetime of yoga and is the perfect foundation on which to build your practice.

LEVEL 1-2

This is the step before an open class. A great class for intermediate students, or those wishing to go at a little slower pace than an open class.

LEVEL 2-3

Intermediate to advanced practice. The most challenging level, recommended for people who are ready to explore advanced variations of arm balances, inversions, jump backs, backbends and lotus. At this level the student will be familiar with principles of alignment and a wide range of asana. Assumes the student has ability to do Adho Mukha Vrksana (Hand Stand) at the wall and Urdhva Danurasana (Upward facing Bow/Wheel) with straight arms.
